Hurricane Bill

Hurricane Bill sent some amazing waves rolling through the Island this weekend and as I sit here sun-baked and smiling… Gracias por el regalo!

Also, had a great night with my family viewing the original Endless Summer on the outdoor projector.

And the bus is now officially lettered and dubbed the Lotus Earth Wagon!

Here are a few photos… The surfing shots are from the leftovers on Monday as we were too busy surfing and forgot to take photos while it was bombing!

El Lanzamiento (the launching)…

Today we launch the first marketing of Lotus Earth.  In the mail are fifteen samples to various surf shops throughout Florida.

This package was actually sent to Colombia.

I met a custom’s attorney from the country who was very gracious to introduce some of our products in the South American market.

The website is finally ready to unveil, though I’m sure it will evolve quickly in the coming weeks.

Check it out and let me know what you think!  Lotus Earth is now and forever about you, your life and enjoying this great ride.

It’s been an amazing year and a long road leading to today.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support and kind words of encouragement.

Drawing Lines

Introducing the official Lotus Earth 1962 Ford Econoline Falcon Club Wagon!

It was featured in the film Drawing Lines.

I met the filmmaker, Josh Bolton, in Atlantic Beach yesterday morning.  Josh is moving to Seattle next week and I’m glad I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with him.

Josh is a rare breed on the East Coast.  He follows his dreams at any cost.

Speaking with Josh definitely fueled my stoke in launching Lotus Earth.

More pictures of the van soon!! Check out the film trailer…

Waves, Thunderstorms & Nuclear Submarines

A huge storm cell has just overtaken the Island.  Steph was laying out at the 1735 House and I noticed a Nuclear Sub in the channel.

We jumped in the Jeep and flew through the winding roads leading to Fort Clinch.

With every turn the temperature dropped. We were heading directly into a massive thunderstorm.

I snapped a couple shots.

And, unless you’ve been on a different planet, you know we’ve had some amazing days of surf!

Also some amazing rip tides.  On Thursday I pulled in three kids. They were instantly swept out in one of the most powerful rip tides I’ve seen in twenty years of surfing.

Their mom sat reading a magazine the entire time.  Unbelievable… She still has no idea how close this situation came to disaster.

Other than that moment, I had blast.  No real photos of surfing as I’ve been in the water at least three hours a everyday.

I did snap a couple on Thursday before paddling out.  Not sure how early these were taken, but looking both ways on Ocean Avenue you’ll see there wasn’t a parking space in site!

Tags, Post Cards and Incidental Loathings

I’ve always loved the idea of Post Cards.

When I travel I tend to buy them along the way and nostalgically mail them to friends (I’ve even been known to mail myself a postcard once in awhile when I’m far from home).

I spent the last few days designing my recycled paper tags and Post Cards for Lotus Earth.  I’ll be including these in the first marketing packages and I think the Post Card will pull double duty as a Business Card.

I loathe business cards and would be very happy to spend the rest of my life never seeing my name on one again…

The Mistress

It’s raining this afternoon.

Had a great session this morning, glassy sets waist high and hollow!

Lot’s of fun with a few good friends.

Joe Waas was out.

When the tide got too high we decided to polish “The Mistress”.  That’s what I have dubbed Joe’s new 6′ 3″ Tombstone Fish as he has spent countless hours with me in the shack working on this board.  I figured we had better have something to show his wife soon or she would think I was just covering for him while he was out gallivanting around town.

Tonight the Mistress is finally home! Joe’s family should be proud, it is really a jewel… Joe is a great craftsman and poured much of his sweat and talent into the board as well.

Here are some photos starting with the final gloss coat.
